The Recovery Code
In our last issue, we shared the story behind Ian Jacobs's 1.8-second world record knockout — one of the fastest in combat sports — and how that moment led to a bigger question: after decades of elite performance, how do you keep showing up without burning out?
Recovery Was Never Meant to Come Last
Most people think recovery starts when the work is over. A stretch, a massage, a good night's sleep. At Synerg888, it begins with the first breath. Sessions start lying down, not as a pause, but as a reset.
Sarah puts it simply.
"We begin with the nervous system. When people feel safe, calm, and connected, everything changes. Breathing, movement, your whole state."— Sarah Johnson
As the session develops, something subtle begins to happen. The breath deepens and becomes more deliberate. Tension releases. The body lengthens, activates, strengthens. Breath, movement, and awareness start working together instead of competing. People often describe feeling more energised, more connected to their body, calmer in their mind.
Recovering While You Perform
"We're not trying to wear people out. We're teaching them to recover while they're performing, not after."— Ian Jacobs
One of the common traits you'll often find in elite athletes, high-performing business leaders, military personnel, and people who consistently handle pressure well is their ability to regulate their state.
They can stay calm in chaos, focused under fatigue, and clear under pressure. They know when to conserve energy, when to recover, and when it's time to switch on and perform.
A great fighter can remain calm while everything around them is moving at incredible speed — then explode at exactly the right moment. A successful business leader can be under enormous pressure and still think clearly, communicate effectively and make good decisions. And people who sustain happiness, fulfilment and performance over the long term often develop their own ways of resetting, regulating and recovering rather than staying switched on until they burn out.
Many people discover these abilities naturally over years, sometimes decades — through experience, instinct, training, mistakes and often costly trial and error.
Synerg888 brings together the principles behind that regulation into one practical, repeatable framework so people can learn to develop that ability deliberately, instead of having to stumble upon it by accident.
For an athlete, that might mean staying composed under pressure, maintaining focus when physically exhausted and knowing when to activate and when to recover. For someone in business, it might mean staying calm during a crisis and focused through long, demanding days. For a parent, it could simply mean walking through the front door after a stressful day with patience, energy and presence for their family.
That ability to deliberately change your state — to activate, regulate and recover as required — can become one of the foundations of sustainable high performance.
And that's where burnout prevention really comes in.
When you learn to shift state deliberately, you reduce the chances of pushing until something breaks. You give your system moments to downshift, reconnect and reset — physically and mentally. That can change how people experience stress, how they sustain focus, and how quickly they recover after intense periods.
Then there is a moment: breath, body, mind aligned.
You feel present, grounded, alert, like you're ready for takeoff. People often struggle to describe it: "I don't have the words," or "you just have to experience it."
It isn't about hype. It's about noticing a genuine shift in physical and mental state.
The 8 to 16 Minute Reset
Life asks different things on different days. Sometimes calm, sometimes focus, sometimes resilience, recovery, or high performance.
That's why the aim is practical: 8 to 16 minutes that you can adapt to what you need in that moment. Before training, before competition, before a big meeting, after a stressful day, or just before walking in the front door.
One framework, endless applications.
Whether you're preparing to run a marathon, leading people at work, raising kids, or simply trying to show up as the best version of yourself, the principle is the same.
This isn't a one-size-fits-all promise. It's an adaptable framework designed to help people move toward the state they need.
And over time, that can be protective — protective against always running hot, protective against ignoring early signs of stress or fatigue, protective of your capacity to keep showing up.
Standing on the Shoulders of Masters
None of this, Sarah and Ian are quick to point out, is something they invented.
Breath, movement, stillness, energy practices and recovery are disciplines with ancient roots, refined across generations, long before modern science had the tools to investigate their effects. Today, aspects of breathing, movement, stress regulation and recovery are increasingly being explored and understood through modern research.
What Synerg888 offers isn't a replacement for those traditions. It brings together ancient wisdom, modern science, specialised training and decades of real-world experience — distilled into a practical framework for a modern life that doesn't necessarily have room for five separate disciplines and five separate teachers.
"We've trained personally with people like Wim Hof and Master Yang. This isn't secondhand knowledge — it's lived, and we've brought it home."— Sarah Johnson
But there is another major part of the Synerg888 story.
The Power of Integration — and BodyTrance
One of the defining principles behind Synerg888 is that it doesn't rely on a single method.
It brings together breathwork, movement, recovery, mindfulness and traditional practices alongside Sarah Johnson's work with Reiki, sound and frequency-based practices, and Ian Jacobs's decades of experience in elite physical performance and BodyTrance.
At the centre of Ian's contribution is BodyTrance — a neuromuscular mind-body training approach that has played a major role in the way he has trained, competed and coached.
Ian was originally taught foundational elements by his trainer, Wayne Spencer, in a different format. Over many years, Ian continued developing, adapting and combining those principles through his own elite competition, coaching, experimentation and collaboration.
What emerged became Ian's own practical BodyTrance approach: teaching people to connect the mind and body deliberately, bringing breath, muscular activation, alignment, movement, awareness and recovery together.
This is one of the major catalysts within Synerg888.
Rather than simply putting a collection of separate modalities next to one another, BodyTrance provides a physical framework through which the different elements can be brought together. The objective is to make the entire experience more integrated, practical and time-efficient.
This is what Sarah and Ian mean by time-efficient, intelligent training, wellbeing and performance.
The goal isn't to spend hours doing five separate practices. It's to learn how to bring key elements together so that, with practice, an 8-to-16-minute session can be adapted to what that individual needs on that particular day.
That could be recovery. It could be preparation for training or competition. It could be focus before a business meeting. It could be movement and neuromuscular activation. Or it could simply be becoming calmer, more present and connected before going home to your family.
The system is designed to meet you where you are and help you move towards where you need to be.
One System — With Doors to Deeper Mastery
Synerg888 is both an integrated system and a gateway to deeper specialist training.
That distinction is important.
The intention isn't to take the work of masters and present it as something Sarah and Ian invented. It is to bring complementary disciplines together, add their own areas of expertise, and give people an efficient way to experience how those elements can work together.
Then, if something resonates deeply, the door opens further.
If someone connects strongly with breathwork and cold exposure, they can explore the work of Wim Hof more deeply.
If they connect with Master Yang's traditional practices, mindfulness, movement and Calligraphy Health approach, they can explore that path further.
If someone connects with Reiki, sound, frequency work or the other modalities Sarah practises, they can continue deeper specialist work with Sarah Johnson.
If someone wants to explore BodyTrance, neuromuscular mind-body training, physical performance or Ian's approach to combat and performance training, they can train directly with Ian Jacobs.
And when appropriate, Sarah and Ian can help connect people with other specialists and masters within the wider network.
"If you like what we teach and you want to go further, we can introduce you. When Wim Hof or Master Yang are next in Australia, we'll help arrange for you to train with them directly. We're not trying to be the only door into this work — we're trying to be the door that opens onto more doors."— Ian Jacobs
That access is something the pair are deliberately generous with.
Synerg888 isn't about gatekeeping knowledge. It's about bringing extraordinary knowledge together, making it understandable and usable, and then helping people go deeper into the areas that can serve them most.
It's a philosophy that runs through everything they've built: ancient wisdom, modern science, specialised expertise and real-world experience, brought together — not to gatekeep it, but to hand it on.
The Recovery Code
Recovery and performance become one.
The objective isn't to push endlessly.
It's to understand yourself — to activate when activation's needed, to regulate when regulation's needed, to recover when recovery's needed, and to develop the awareness to know the difference.
For athletes, leaders, parents — anyone — the objective is ultimately the same: learning how to shift state deliberately and developing practical tools that support sustainable performance and wellbeing.
Sustainable performance isn't about being switched on all the time.
It's about learning how to change states deliberately, and having practical tools to come back to yourself when life pulls you away.
Calm in chaos. Focused under fatigue. Able to activate when it's time to perform — and able to recover when it's time to recover.
That's the recovery code. That's Synerg888.
